Biographical sketch
Teodoro Miano is Full Professor of Soil Chemistry, Dept.
of Biology and Chemistry of Agro-forestry and Environment,
University of Bari, Italy. He spent fellowship
and research periods abroad at: Soil Science and Soil
Geography, University of Bayreuth, Germany
(1986); Dept. Soil & Environmental Sciences, University
of
California, Riverside, U.S.A. (1987); Geologisches
Institut, University of Bern, Switzerland (1992, 1994);
Norwegian Institute of Water Research, Oslo, Norway
(1993); Marine Institute, University of Georgia, Sapelo Island,
Georgia, U.S.A. (1995, 1999).
He served as Secretary and
Newsletter Editor of International Humic Substances
Society (1994-2003) and the Italian Society of
Agricultural Chemistry (SICA). He is member of
the International Committee of the ISEB;
President of the Commission II - Soil Chemistry and
member of the steering Committee of the Italian Society
of Soil Science (SISS); President, Soil System Sciences
Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU);
Vice President/President Elect,
International Humic Substances Society (IHSS); President of the Scientific Advisory Committee of CIHEAM
(2004-2008), Deputy President, European
Confederation Soil Science Societies (ECSSS, and Vice Chair of Commission 2.2 Soil Chemistry of the
International Union of Soil Science (IUSS). He serves in
a Technical Panel for Research Projects evaluation of
the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. He serves as
Associate Editor of the international journal Applied
and Environmental Soil Science. Co-editor of 9 volumes.
Author or co-author of approximately 100 scientific
papers, most of which in international journals,
proceedings and books. Referee of several journals and
Research Institutions. Congress Organizing and
Scientific Committees: >40.

Main research interests
concern:
• Soil, sediment and
biomass organic matter: characterization, fractionation,
environmental functions;
• Humification processes
in organic soils;
• Impacts and effects of
amendments of various origin and nature to soil systems;
• Trace elements behaviour
in the soil-plant system, in natural substrates and
related chemical processes;
• Pesticides interactions
with plants and soil components, degradation phenomena
and metabolite tracking in the environment;

Natural and food industry biomasses recycling and
composting.
